Who am I? And why does this blog exist?
To answer the first question: My name is Faizal Ali. I am a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst living in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
My extra-professional interests include discussion and debate regarding the denial of certain scientific facts and theories, a denial that is often motivated by religious beliefs. The theory of evolution is probably the most commonly denied theory, and I belong to a number of groups and forums in which this issue is debated. I am also a moderator on the Facebook group “Evolution Science vs Creation Science.”
Which brings us to the second question: In recent months, somewhat to my surprise and bemusement, a couple of fairly prominent figures in the creationist movement have written articles on the internet directly attacking some of my comments and arguments. As is often the case with such individuals, their articles had no comments sections or any other means to publicly respond to their claims.
I wanted there to be somewhere on the internet that my responses would be easily available, and I figured a blog was the most practical way to accomplish this.
So here we are.
The first few posts will be my responses to these creationist articles. As to what, if anything, will appear here after that, that remains to be seen.
I’m a complete noob when it comes to blogging and similar computer stuff, so please bear with me if things do not quite work here as they should at first.
Thanks for dropping by! I hope you will stick around to read what is coming up, and hope you’ll find it interesting and informative.
